Quality of Life Care

The QOL assessment service is a discussion between you and other primary caregiver(s) of your pet and the veterinarian. It is designed to help guide you with more objective measures at this difficult time. The service can be provided in your home or virtually via the phone, chat, or video.

To set up a QOL assessment for your pet, simply fill out the QOL form, then click the "Request an Appointment" button or email thecomfotvet@gmail.com. You can also text/call and leave a message at (608) 561-1639. Someone will be in touch with you within 24-48 hours.

Hospice care helps provide support and care for patients in the last phase of an incurable disease or at the natural end of life. This care is centered on the belief that patients in the last phase of life deserve to live as fully and comfortably as possible.

Holistic hospice care is care that is integrative - a combination of Western and Eastern medical care - with a focus on comfort and not a cure. Pain management is a priority and this service utilizes the best of both worlds.

A complete conventional physical examination and TCVM examination

Acupuncture

Laser therapy

Comfort kits for emergency needs (additional charges apply)

Quality of life assessments

In-home environmental evaluation with enrichment recommendations

Disease education and estimated disease trajectory

Basic Ultrasound diagnostics to monitor disease progression (additional charges apply)

Laboratory diagnostics (additional charges apply)

Hospice supported natual death (when appropriate)

Once a terminal illness has been diagnosed, it is time to discuss how everyone will want to proceed with care. You should learn who wants to help, who can dedicate time to the pet’s care, and what your financial resources are. It is also important to learn early on whether you will wait for a natural death or choose euthanasia.

∙ Choosing a natural death - If you will wait for a natural death, hospice care is critical to prevent suffering by managing pain and to meet the pet’s needs right up to the end. This level of hospice care is very involved and will take great dedication by everyone in the home. It can be a very meaningful time as you guide your pet along the transition between life and death.

∙ Choosing euthanasia - If you will choose euthanasia, your pet can be made comfortable and your family informed on what signs to look for to indicate the time for euthanasia has come. The hospice care time will be reduced, but the level of care will remain high. Euthanasia can be chosen at any time you believe your pet is no longer responding to their medications and treatments.

Be sure and have your pet's primary veterinarian share current medical records on your pet to thecomfortvet@gmail.com ahead of time.
